Reading this quarterly proceeds on the terms below. They describe what its measurements claim, how the writing may be quoted, the position on spoilers, and the point at which responsibility ends.
Each piece records argued judgement formed under the conditions on the criteria page. Where an article attributes a structural pattern to scheduling, budget or testing practice, that is an inference drawn from the finished work and from publicly available accounts of how such work is made, not a report of anything disclosed to me.
Figures describe my notes and nothing wider. Six of eight games means six of the eight I played and measured, using the definitions stated on the criteria page, which another person applying them would render slightly differently.
Writing about structure requires describing where events fall, including endings. Every article here does so. This appears on the masthead, on the criteria page and here, and no warnings are placed within the articles themselves.
Nothing here is guidance about what to buy, play or avoid. An article concluding that a game's middle sags is not a recommendation against it, and admiration for a well-placed revelation is not a recommendation for anything. This quarterly describes construction; what you play remains your decision.
Short quotations in articles, videos, essays and discussion are welcome where Third Act Review is credited and the quotation is not cut so as to reverse its sense. Reproducing a full article, translating one without permission, or using this writing to train commercial machine learning systems is not permitted.
Passages must not appear in advertising, on storefront pages or in promotional material. A measured figure removed from its stated method and placed beside a purchase button misrepresents both the figure and the work that produced it.
Every illustration, photograph and the crest were produced for this quarterly and remain mine. None is a screenshot and none depicts any actual game; they accompany prose. Names of games, studios and publishers belong to their owners and appear for identification and critical commentary only, with no affiliation or endorsement implied in either direction.
This quarterly sells nothing. There is no shop, subscription, membership, donation route or advertising inventory, so no order, payment, refund or delivery can arise between us. Any approach claiming to trade under this name is unconnected with the publication.
The site is provided as it stands. I give no undertaking that it will remain reachable, that older articles will stay published, or that internal links will survive reorganisation. Articles may be corrected, annotated, supplemented or withdrawn at my discretion.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, I accept no liability for loss or damage arising from reliance on anything published here, including any game bought, avoided or abandoned on the strength of an argument. An article informs a reader; it decides nothing for them.
Articles sometimes reference work published elsewhere. Those destinations lie outside my control, I make no representation about their accuracy or continued existence, and their own terms apply from the moment you leave this domain.
This page is revised as the quarterly's practice develops. Whatever text appears when you load it is the text that applies, and continuing to read after a revision means proceeding under the current version rather than any earlier one.
